Charitable Purpose Trust
Defintion of Charitable Purpose Trust
It refers to a trust created in writing for providing public benefit, soley for one or more of the following "charitable purposes":
1. Prevention and relief of poverty
2. Advancement of education
3. Advancement of religion
4. Advancement of health
5. Advancement of citizenship or comunity development
6. Advancement of arts, heritage or science
7. Advancement of environmental protection or improvement
8. Relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship, other disadvantage
9. Advancement of animal welfare
10. Advancement of sport ("sport") means a sport which involoves physcial skills and exertion
Under Section 2(1) of the Singapore Charities Act, a charity is defined as:
" Any insitution which is established for charitable purposes and is subject to the control of the High Court in exercise of the Court's jurisdiction with respect to charities".
Although "charitable purposes" is not defined in the Charities Act, the Courts have classified "charitable purposes" generally along the above lines
